STATIONS OF LEARNING
Nestled under the big oak trees, Imagination Station is the perfect place to help children cultivate a sense of accomplishment and pride as they use their imagination to explore their artistic side. Our craft activities help nurture children’s creativity which can help them further develop their social and emotional skills, and enhance their ability to analyze and problem-solve.
Located in Empowerment Park, the Sweetwater Stage overlooks the farm and promotes dramatic play with opportunities to role-play life experiences, which helps them explore emotions, build curiosity, learn to cooperate, invent, and develop empathy. We then extend their learning with the Sweetwater Kids and Choosy Kids dance videos to encourage physical activity and further develop their minds through rhythmic movement.
Our engaging raised-bed gardens feature vegetables, herbs, and fruits for children to explore and learn about. Surrounded by colorful native flowers, The Gardens is an ideal setting for teaching children about the workings of nature, environmental awareness, and good nutrition. And giving children the opportunity to help care for a garden builds self-esteem, fosters responsibility, nurtures a love for nature, encourages reasoning and cooperation, and is a great way to promote physical activity.
Animals can be our greatest teachers, and The Barnyard is the ideal classroom! Children will have the experience of a lifetime interacting with our loving animal friends. They will observe how the animals live (what they eat, where they sleep, how they communicate), they’ll explore how the animals share many of the same feelings that they do, and learn kind and humane ways to care for them. The Barnyard builds on children’s natural connection to animals and enriches their lives by teaching responsibility, kindness, compassion, and empathy; and ultimately by bolstering their self-confidence.
The Campfire Circle is one of the most peaceful and relaxing spots on Sweetwater Farms. Safely gathered around the contained fire pit on multi-colored stumps, children are encouraged to let their imaginations soar through storytelling, discussion, and reflection—promoting listening and speaking skills, and encouraging creativity and self-confidence. Our Campfire Circle activities give children opportunities to experience joyful interactions and inspire them to explore their own experiences, feelings, and challenges.
At the center of Sweetwater Farms you’ll find Empowerment Park where children engage in unique outdoor learning experiences that support the development of gross motor skills, cooperative play, relationship building, and social confidence.
We gather at our charming cottage at the end of our program to give children an opportunity to reflect on their farm experience. Settled into soft cushions on the floor they will explore their thoughts, feelings, and actions. We then conclude their farm experience with a delightful guided journey where they will learn to use their imagination to help them quiet their mind, reflect, and notice how their body feels in a calm and relaxed state.
